[cis queers win another victory, trans* people still denied protection]

So the New Hampshire state senate voted for a bill that would allow gay marriage but voted against protecting trans* people under the state’s anti-discrimination law.

*sigh* I just… I just don’t know.

I am finding it very difficult to feel happy about victories in the realm of same-sex marriage, not because I’m one of those asshats who would deny others their happiness, but because trans* people continue to get slapped in the face while cis LGB rights are seen as “more important”.

To show just how little trans* folk count as people, check the difference in the voting: the senate voted 13-11 to approve the gay marriage bill but voted 24-0 against transgender rights. Wow. I.. just… I think I need to pick my jaw up off the floor, hang on.

This is how little we count as human beings, being trans*. Not one out of twenty-four people in that senate believed we deserve to be protected against discrimination. They fell for the ridiculous “bathroom argument,” the line of thought that does not differentiate between trans women and cis male rapists and claims that if trans women are allowed to use women’s public washrooms, then, by golly, next thing we know, we’ll see cis men in skirts completely legally raping (cis) women and children! There’ll be nothing stopping them!

Except that nothing is currently stopping cis men from going into women’s washrooms and raping random women and children. How, exactly, would recognizing and protecting the rights of trans* people lead to the victimization of innocent (cis) women and children?

Maybe I shouldn’t get too cynical too quickly. In the same move, New Hampshire also voted for medical marijuana and postponed seat belt laws under the grounds that seat belt laws infringe on individual freedoms (…and forcing trans women to use the men’s restroom is not infringing on personal freedom??). Man, New Hampshire sure is weird.

In other news…

Dear Dan Savage,

I don’t give a fuck if you threw a bone to us FTM’s in your recent podcast (and used “pussy” as an insult while doing so. real classy, there). It doesn’t change the fact that you’re still a fatphobic, ableist, transmisogynist, racist, biphobic douchebag. I could keep adding links proving my point, but jeezy creezy I’d be up all night at that rate.

No love,
